We Faced Down the Coldest Winter in Years. North Liberty Celebrates with Fire (and Ice)
North Liberty, Iowa, Jan. 25, 2019 — As we emerge from the coldest temperatures in years, North Liberty’s Beat the Bitter is excited to celebrate with the community at the free family Fire & Ice Friday presented by GEICO, on Feb. 1, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Fire & Ice Friday includes horse-drawn carriage rides, the opening of the public ice skating rink, a bonfire with s’mores, a fireworks finale and more at Penn Meadows Park, 170 N. Dubuque Street.
“After days stuck at home without school, Fire & Ice Friday offers a chance for families to do something off the couch. We’re embracing winter and are excited to celebrate with the community,” says Jillian Miller, the City of North Liberty’s community engagement coordinator and chair of the planning committee. “This bitter will not beat us.”
Adults are invited to get active during the Winter Games presented by Scheels on Feb. 2, starting with the 5K-ish Obstacle Run at 9 a.m., also at Penn Meadows Park.
Beat the Bitter runs through Saturday, Feb. 2, with additional events hosted by local organizations and businesses. Explore the full schedule and register at BeatTheBitter.com.
Beat the Bitter is organized by the North Liberty Community Betterment Group, a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
