The Indomitable Snow Run is a 5K-ish fun run with obstacles! Runners will complete the course through the tundra of Penn Meadows Park. This run isn’t officially timed, but it does promise to be a good time.
Registration includes a pair of Beat the Bitter gloves and is $15 online (pre-registration closed 2/2/17). Day-of registration will be available for $20 (gloves not guaranteed). Only cash or check accepted day-of.
The 1st place male and female finishers will each receive a $50 gift card to the North Liberty Recreation Center.
The race begins at 9 a.m. and is restricted to ages 14 and up (unless children are running with a guardian). A signed waiver is required day-of to compete. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m.
The course is about 5 kilometers and includes the following challenges:
Iron Memory of Steel: Put yourself in a Zen-like state to lock the passphrase in your mind during the travails of the course. If you don’t remember the phrase at the end of the run, you’ll be doing 20 burpees before you can cross the finish line.
Polar Potholes: Maneuver over a treacherous terrain. You’ve gotta have quick feet.
Everest Death Zone: Make your ascent up Mount Everest. Don’t get stuck at the top for long or you’ll run out of oxygen in the Death Zone.
Collapsed Cave: You’re at Point A. Escape is at Point B. A narrow passage way lies between. You figure it out.
Alpine Terrain: Navigate over and under a series of snowy obstacles.
Blustery Bumper Trek : Journey into gusts of wind with bumpers on your back. You got this.
Snow Tire Grunt: Remember that time you changed a flat during your trek across the Yukon? This is like that.
Shin Shivers: Jump over the arctic hurdles. Don’t get your leg caught or you’ll end up with a face full of snow.
Iditarod Pull: Every year, sled dogs race more than 1,000 miles across Alaska. Surely you can move a sled a few dozen yards.
Cavern Chasm: Navigate a narrow bridge over an icy cavern. Or fall to your death.
