Ice Skating

Take advantage of the Penn Meadows Park 100-foot by 115-foot outdoor ice rink installed on top of the tennis courts! Bring your own skates or check skates out from our Beat the Bitter volunteers at no cost at the entrance to the rink during Winter Games Saturday.

Ice rink hours and skate availability is slightly different on Feb. 3, 2018, than the rink’s seasonal schedule. Please read below.

RINK HOURS
The rink will be open to all ages for free public skating December-March as long as weather conditions are agreeable. During Winter Games Saturday on Feb. 3, the rink will be open between 1-3 p.m. The rink will be reserved for a Curling Tournament and Broomball Tournament that morning.

BORROW SKATES
Between 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, a variety of skate sizes will be available for the public to borrow at no cost for up to 30 minutes at a time. Skate time is limited to 30 minutes to allow for as many people to borrow skates and enjoy the rink during the event as possible. Skates can be checked out from a rink volunteer with a ID.

A maximum of 4 pairs of skates can be borrowed by one person at a time. Sizes are limited and will be loaned out on a first come, first served basis. Skate reservations are not available.

If you have skates that you would like donate to the recreation center, your used skates would greatly help people enjoy the rink. Please contact us if you are interested in making such a donation and thank you for your consideration.

PURCHASE SKATES
Penn Meadows will be home to an outdoor rink seasonally for the foreseeable future so many people might prefer to invest in buying skates. Skates are available for purchase at Scheels and Play It Again Sports in Iowa City.
